SHOW: Monday at (le) Poisson Rouge ($13)
Matmos is an electronic duo that works at the experimental end of things. On their new album The Marriage of True Minds, they've taken the "experimental" thing literally. Matmos built the whole album around recordings of experiments in ESP, telepathy, and the like.
If you're worried that the concept may outweigh the quality, though, think again. Today's download, the track "Teen Paranormal Romance" provides a lot of atmosphere, but it's the group's trademark use of atonal sounds as rhythm that keeps the track grounded. They may not give you ESP, but Matmos might be giving you an idea of what it sounds like.
Download "Teen Paranormal Romance" above, and watch a video of the band performing the song "Water" in a Studio 360 session below. Matmos plays at (le) Poisson Rouge Monday night.
