Much has been made recently about the rise of indie hip hop. Now, what exactly does that genre encompass? That's up for debate. But it's hard to deny that the band Why? should be in the conversation.
Today's download showcases the band's expert tendencies in both indie and hip-hop genres. Harps and a dry piano form the backbone song, but ultimately that backbone is a beat, the background for frontman Yoni Wolf's verbose rapping. That is, until he sings his own hook, solitary achieving a contrast in styles that usually takes two to pull off.
