Montreal-based musician Devon Welsh isn’t afraid to be sparse. His music – recorded under the name Majical Cloudz - relies on just a few samples at a time to create a dreamy atmosphere. Then Welsh fills the space with his soulful, impassioned voice.
As a result, today's download by Majical Cloudz' benefits greatly from strategic placement. The few elements that are used come in at opportune times, creating a slow, steady groove. It's a sound that harkens back to the best of 80's pop - the stuff that relied more on inventiveness than excess.
