So much for the magic of studio seclusion. Singer-songwriter Tift Merritt wrote her latest album on a SoHo restaurant’s house piano while the staff looked on (and tried to keep quiet). Appearing on Soundcheck, the North Carolina native said it was the most at home she felt since moving to the Big Apple.
Listen to Tift Merritt's entire Soundcheck session here, and watch a video from that session below. Merritt plays at 92Y Tribeca Saturday night, along with painter Anna Schuleit. Schuleit will be drawing on a tablet computer during the performance, which will be projected live behind Merritt.

oh shit, I love the tift song, but what was the other gig alert mention? That sounded great too but I came to see the name in print.
