People usually refer to Nigel Godrich as Radiohead’s producer. Some even consider him the band's "sixth member." However, that title belies his extensive career away from Radiohead. Godrich has produced acclaimed albums by Beck, Paul McCartney, Air, and many others. Now he’s stepping out of the studio and on to the stage with his new band Ultraista.

At first listen, the band's dense, electronic sound is trademark Godrich. In this case, though, he is aided by drummer Joey Waronker, who previously worked with Godrich on Beck's Mutations and Sea Change. The songs produced by the two together lock in a groove and rarely venture far from where they start, a trait that would mean boredom were it not for the smooth melodies sung by vocalist Laura Bettinson.
