Hard to believe it's already time to take stock of the year in music. Every December countless music fans and critics obsessively cobble together their lists, meticulously crafting spreadsheets, point systems, and various geeky criteria for what they think are the best songs, albums, and artists.

Sure, rating and comparing music can be a futile, silly process. But it can also be an excellent way to discover and share new music, as well as an opportunity to put our mind around what it was about those songs -- a beat, a lyrical phrase, a guitar riff, a melodic hook -- that drew us in, and what songs will stick with us going forward. 

So as we begin to wrap up 2012 and ramp up for 2013, we want to hear from you about your favorite music of the year. To help, we've crafted a simple survey with eight questions:
