Henry Rollins, the former frontman of the hardcore punk band Black Flag, is an intimidating physical performer. He's also a really smart guy, an author, a columnist, and - as we learned last time he was on Soundcheck - an avid fan of snakes. Henry Rollins will kick your ass.
The ageless godfather of punk, famed for spitting out lyrics while crawling over broken glass, is extreme enough a performer that even Henry Rollins, recorded on one of his spoken word tours, acknowledges that there is simply no way to match him. This video, posted to Youtube last month, is 20 minutes long and full of words you will not want your kids or co-workers to hear. It has, however, an incredibly precise impersonation of Iggy Pop's speaking voice by Henry Rollins, among many other moments of hilarity. Enjoy.
John Schaefer has hosted Soundcheck since the show’s inception in 2002. He has also hosted and produced WNYC’s radio series New Sounds since 1982 (“The No. 1 radio show for the Global Village” – Billboard) and the New Sounds Live concert series since 1986.
