Generally speaking, most Brazilian artists refer to picturesque Rio De Janeiro and its dramatic urban paradise vibe for their imagery. But in the music video for Luisa Maita’s “Alento” (below), viewers are beemed to the fast-paced megalopolis of São Paolo in all its gritty, traffic-snarled, concrete-choked glory. Maita’s music however, is no less pretty than we’ve come to expect from Brazil. Her sound is based samba and bossa, but also contains the cosmopolitan, urban energies of her home city. On this track, “Desencabulada,” Maita sings about a trip to a favela baile funk over delicate minor-key string instruments, leading listeners into an anthemic chorus that wouldn’t feel out of place in a soccer stadium.
