Hip-Hop artist Lil' Wayne was released from Rikers Island on Thursday morning, after serving eight months there for having a gun on a tour bus. While in jail, Lil' Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, Jr. became the first artist in 15 years to have an album (I Am Not a Human Being) hit No. 1 on Billboard 200 while still behind bars.

On Wednesday, WNYC's Culture team checked in with New Yorkers to see what they thought about "Weezy" getting out of jail. Fans had hoped that Lil' Wayne would perform at a prison-release party this week at Madison Square Garden. But his label is reportedly planning a homecoming celebration in Miami.
