Bess Rogers
"What We Want"
Playing at: Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen St., L.E.S.)
Info: Tickets ($8) | Directions

Words like "light" and "breezy" coupled with "lilting" and "hooky" best describe the Bess Rogers track “What We Want.” The Brooklyn-based singer songwriter’s lyrics float along above her prancing guitar, ukulele ditties and bass beats. But that’s not the only narrative style Rogers serves up for her audiences. “Mostly I write songs that are upbeat, energetic or even aggressive,” she says. “I like people to be able to dance and even headbang to my music.” For a taste of the latter, check out this video for her rollicking “Favorite Day.” Both tracks are available on Rogers' recently released EP, Bess Rogers Presents Bess Rogers.

I've seen Bess in concert with Ingrid Michaelson twice and find her voice enticing and lovely. These performers epitomize true music and are kind to the senses.

How beautiful! I can't even remember the last time I heard a new recording that was not over-engineered, and sounded simply lovely.
