“Something Else”

Before 2009, John O’Regan was best known as the lead singer of the Canadian indie act "D'Urbervilles." Then, with the help of copious amounts of eye make-up, he transformed himself into Diamond Rings. The project has won great praise (including Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” shout out) for its smart electro-pop songwriting. But it’s also turned heads for daring music videos (see below) that play with ideas of androgyny and sexuality. On “Something Else,” washed-out guitars blend with a pumping electronic bass drum and O’Regan’s unique baritone to form a sound that is both fresh and recognizably retro.
