Fitz and the Tantrums is yet another rising band that has wooed audiences with references to Stax-era soul music. The band (made up of “six killer musicians, five dapper suits” from sunny Los Angeles) distinguishes itself, however, by also playing to the hook-driven sound of today’s indie pop. Lead singer Michael Fitzpatrick goes for a reverb-soaked, almost Rick Astley-esque sound, complimented by co-vocalist Noelle Scaggs’ bluesy crooning. This song, “Moneygrabber” is from the band's debut album Pickin’ Up The Pieces, and its indisputable catchy-ness has a lot to do the band’s quick rise to our pop culture consciousnesses.
