In Studio: Nicole Atkins

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

Singer and songwriter Nicole Atkins has seen a lot of change since her 2007 debut album, “Neptune City” – she broke with her label, her boyfriend and her band. But that didn’t stop the New Jersey native from putting it all back together again. Nicole Atkins joins us live in studio to perform tracks from her new album, Mondo Amore.

I was at the Watermark on the Asbury Park boardwalk and the dj was just terrific. NO BAD SONGS. Not one!
It would be a song like "Rock Steady" by Aretha Franklin and then a new song I didn't know but wanted to know.

My husband and I told the waiter twice how much we were enjoying it and he said it was Nicole Atkins.

A friend of mine in Asbury Park told me about Nicole Atkins about three years ago (which still made me the last one on the bus, I know). Man, she just has 'it'. What a great sound. She always catches and keeps my ear.

Ha! I was going to say the same thing. It is not pronounced "duh shteel". The closest English approximation would be more like "duh style".

Sorry John, but that didn't sound like the "right Dutch pronunciation" at all...
