Paul Collins has temporarily set aside his bass guitar in the Balkan-folk indie band Beirut to create a folksier strum-sound in his new Brooklyn band Soft Landing. The Oregon-born guitarist and singer started Soft Landing with drummer Perrin Cloutier. Collins also tapped Beirut’s producer, Griffin Rodriguez, for help on his new outfit’s debut album (called simply Soft Landing), which was released last fall. Mike Lawless joins Collins and Cloutier to fill out the electronic bits in the band on Farfisa and Moog, and to play bass and guitar.
