In 2008, an e-mail claimed the movie star Emile Hirsch had a new musical project: Emil & Friends, which had put out an EP called Downed Economy. The connection turned out to be fake, and truth be told, Emil & Friends isn’t a band at all. It’s the sole musical effort of a 23 year-old Beantown boy named Emil Hewitt. Hewitt, who is now based in New York City, gives electro-funk and folk a modern disco workout on Downed Economy. On this track, “Josephine,” he follows suit, jumping from dreamy pop to bouncy keyboard effects and steady lyrical hooks. Download "Josephine" above or Hewitt’s remix of the Passion Pit hit single “Sleepyhead” below.
