In Studio: Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata

Tuesday, March 01, 2011

To say that composer and musician Peter Kiesewalter is a fan of the film version of “The Sound of Music” might be the understatement of the year. The "Edelweiss" enthusiast joins us to talk about hoarding film posters, copies of the soundtrack, sheet music and even an eight-track tape. And, he brings in his Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata to play songs from the new album, "The Hills Are Alive," a reinterpretation of songs from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

Guests:

Peter Kiesewalter

Wow! Have never seen so many negative comments! The SOM stuff is NOT an asset to these musicians. Today is so long thereafter...they would be wise to follow a different muse, They are obviously very gifted. They would do well to go in a different direction. I am old enough to have seen SOM on Broadway. It was great...then...so long ago...

You had mentioned wanting to come up with a name for those addicted to the "Sound of Music".
My 14 y/o daughter came up with 'Sound Hounds"
and we jointly came up with 'Von Trappers'.

When I was six, I was ushered into a dark room. Suddenly a curtain flew out, a temple-front appeared, looming in the darkness. Muffled stage-business.A woman turned around with the most incredible violet eyes and sang to me, straight at me, with a basket of orange flowers under one arm, and red under the other other.

My first experience with Julie Andrews - I was 6. It was My Fair Lady.

Still recovering.

For inspiration, I note that fans of the character Kurt Hummel, whose name was inspired by the Sound of Music, are called "Kurtsies".

I can't answer about the SoM fans, but I can give you two choices for $100.00 per year paid monthly:

Either $8.33 eight times and $8.34 four times or $8.33 for eleven months and $8.37 once.

Better to pledge $120.00.
