New York City's art galleries and museums are having a guitar moment. We hear about three exhibitions that highlight the axe as art. Plus: the California Guitar Trio brings their eclectic sound to our studio.

The Axe as Art

The guitar is the focus of three separate exhibits currently on display in New York. From mixed-media representations by Picasso to exquisitely crafted instruments by luthier John Monteleone, we examine the axe as art with critic and WNYC regular, Carolina Miranda.

In Studio: California Guitar Trio

Since the late 1980s, the California Guitar Trio has played a matched set of electro-acoustic guitars in an unconventional tuning. This allows them to play everything from Beethoven to The Ventures. They also write original works, and will play for us in the studio.
