Brooklyn-based avant-psychedelic rock band Nymph's free-jazz and jam style is equal parts furry and harmony. Philly-born Matty McDermott leads the outfit with a shredding guitar tricked with echoes, reverb and distortion that combats the Japanese banshee vocals of singer and percussionist Eri Shoji. While equipped with a handmade arsenal of percussion instruments, Shoji projects her Hindustani classical singing background into yelps, à la Yoko Ono, that burst against the blistering fret-work of McDermott. Have a listen on this featured track “II YO” from the band’s 2010 self-titled debut release. On a culturally beneficial note: All proceeds from Friday night’s gig at The Stone will be donated to a Japanese relief fund.
