Stephen Schwartz is the composer and lyricist behind the hit musicals Wicked and Godspell. His first opera is Seance on a Wet Afternoon, based on a suspense novel adapted for the screen in 1964. In advance of its New York premiere at City Opera, Schwartz joins us with soprano Lauren Flanigan to preview an aria from Seance.

Opera? Come on now. Even as musical theater that was not inventive composition. The singing was not annoying---that's a beautiful voice---it's the writing, at least to these ears.
