Love 'concert-as-event' concept.
I also love concerts where the conductor (or someone) goes through the piece with orchestra in the 1st half, then plays the whole piece in the 2nd half.
(Sorry for my 2nd post, but I am LOVING today's show.)

I heard the Philadelphians at Carnegie Hall last night. They sounded wonderful. In Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex under Charles Dutoit, they did what they do best - lavish orchestral sonic splendor. In the first piece, the strings were booming. They also got a nice pre-concert round of supportive applause. I wish them well - I used to live in Philadelphia and spent nearly every weekend x 4 years going to concerts and sitting in the $4 cheap ampitheatre seats -- they made me a classical music lover.
