Guitarist Brad Shepik is known for his musical versatility and melding various world music styles with jazz. On this piece, he uses his creative prowess to champion a global issue. This opening track from Shepik's 2009 album Human Activity Suite launches a 10-movement piece featuring compositions devoted to the theme of climate change and musically inspired by the music of the world, with seven of the movements named after each continent. On "Lima (South America)," Shepik and his fierce quintet evoke a sense of cautious jubilance with sprightly guitar, trumpet and chatty accordion.
