Dirty Beaches
"Sweet 17"
Playing Friday at South Street Seaport, Pier 17
(89 South St., Financial District)
Info: Tickets FREE | Directions

Dirty Beaches is the solo sound project of the Taiwanese musician, and not so closeted lover of iconic '50’s Americana, Alex Zhang Hungtai. A far-flung trans-Pacific traveler, Hungtai has called Toronto, Honolulu, Montreal and Vancouver home and has picked up on the likes of Bo Didley and minimalist synth provocateurs Suicide.

Friday night’s show at the South Street Seaport will be his last U.S. stop before jumping the pond for his first European tour. The jaunt is in support of his album Badlands, released on June 6 on Zoo Music.

You can download the track “Sweet 17” here or surf the Internet to watch Hungtai's rock noir video for “Speedway King.” The video, although having a real Link Wray-vibe and a rock 'n' roll homage to Elvis Presley, had too much nudity to embed here.
