Ximena Sariñana
“Different”
Playing Wednesday at Webster Hall
(125 E. 11th St., East Village)
Get: Tickets ($25) | Directions

In her native Mexico, Ximena Sariñana is more than a recognizable face. She’s been a telanovela star since age 11, a film composer since 17, and since her solo music debut in 2008, a well-regarded singer-songwriter who has earned comparisons to Norah Jones. Now, at age 25, Sariñana has major-label backing on this side of the border and is trying her hand — and vocal chords — at the general English language market. This song, “Different,” is the lead single on her new album, and it’s a work of well-constructed, palatable pop, with a dash of freewheeling ‘60s pool party thrown in.
