Ron Carter Big Band
“Loose Change”
Playing Thursday at The Jazz Standard
(116 E. 27th St., Gramercy)
Get: Tickets ($30) | Directions

One of the greatest and most prolific bassists in jazz history, Ron Carter’s low-tones have boomed on over 2,000 recordings, and have supported artists from Miles Davis to Cannonball Adderley to Herbie Hancock. Until now however, Carter has never done a big-band recording as a bandleader.

Ron Carter’s Great Big Band comes out on September 13, and the bass legend is celebrating with a week of concerts at the Jazz Standard along with a full 16-person group. They’ll be playing this song, a big-band arrangement of Carter’s blues “Loose Change" that features some seriously tasty horn solo parts.
