Susmit Sen
“Rejuvination” - (Demo)
Playing Wednesday at Drom
 (85 Avenue A., East Village)
Get: Tickets | Directions

Like many self-taught musicians, guitarist Susmit Sen has a sound that's entirely his own blend of Indian music -- traditional sounds mixed with elements of jazz and rock. As a founding member of the seminal Indian fusion band Indian Ocean, Sen has honed his sound since the band began in the early 1990's.

On Wednesday, Sen takes the spotlight alone for the first time in the United States in advance of his first solo album. Sen stresses that this track, "Rejuvination," is still a work in progress, but the strength of the music is easy to hear. His agile guitar dashes and dances around soaring vocals, which are interspersed with lugubrious lulls. The result? The perfect jam session.
