Dave Douglas Quintet
"Blockbuster"
Playing at: Village Vanguard
(178 7th Ave., West Village)
Get: Tickets | Directions

Since emerging onto the New York jazz scene in the 1980s, trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas has distinguished himself from the pack by incorporating a wide range of non-jazz influences (everything from klezmer to Stevie Wonder) in his music. On "Blockbuster," Douglas combines this practice with the almost big-band sound of his quintet. The result is a dynamic declaration of the power and swagger of brass.
