Stream It Here: Lura

Despite being born in Lisbon, Lura adopted the music of her parents' home country, Cape Verde, an island off the western coast of Africa. She joined the Soundcheck crew to discuss music coming out of this area.

"We have a long story of immigration. I feel that most people in Cape Verde experience family leaving the country and lots of feelings of missing and nostalgia, and you can not do more than inspire yourself in your questions of love, of problems of the day with your family. I think that [that's why] 90 percent of Cape Verde are musicians."

Lura also performed stripped-down versions of "Um Dia" and "Batuku" in our studios, backed by acoustic guitar and violin.
