Their newest record might be called The Moonlight Butterfly, but the music of post-rock vets The Sea And Cake transports listeners to decidedly sunnier times.
For nearly two decades, this Chicago quartet has made an art of crafting airy, mid-tempo rock that brims with breezy melodies and sun-kissed chords. The outfit fashions its sound by combining rock instrumentation, jazz sensibility and dream-pop euphoria.
The Sea and Cake’s jangly guitar riffs and catchy pop structure on “Up On The North Shore” — the wispy lead single off of the group's ninth release — for example, turn it into the ideal soundtrack for summery, suburban fancy.
Download “Up On The North Shore” above and catch the Sea and Cake live at the Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night.
