(361 Metropolitan Ave., Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
Get: Tickets ($15) | Directions

When she's not touring with Canadian indie-rock Voltron The New Pornographers, singer-songwriter and keyboardist Kathryn Calder leads a quite productive solo career. (The Ottawa native joined the band in 2006 to sub for singer Neko Case, whose own solo career has taken off too coincidentally.)

Calder released her debut Are You My Mother? in 2010, then followed it up with October's sophomore effort Bright And Vivid.

Calder embarked on a 19-date tour late last month in support of her releases and on Tuesday night, she plays the Knitting Factory. Watch Calder's video for her lead single "Who Are You?" below and download her song "Turn On A Light On" above. Calder's gentle, layered vocals atop sweet synthpop will transport listeners to a dreamy, ethereal place.

Turn a Light On is fantastic. However, using VLC media player I found that if the song is slowed to 0.92x normal speed, it sounds even better! It brings out Calders soothing voice, especially her "oooh-ing" during the introduction. This is a song you can truly feel.
