Though Brittany Howard, Zac Cockrell, Steve Johnson and Heath Fogg have been playing music for years in their hometown of Athens, Alabama, they didn't gig together until 2009. Soon after they did, Alabama Shakes was born.

"I Found You," off of the band's new self-titled EP, showcases some of Alabama Shakes' eclectic musical influences, which include Otis Redding, David Bowie, Erykah Badu, My Morning Jacket and Blackalicious.

Alabama Shakes (not to be confused with The Shakes) plays Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday night. In this video, the band plays another song off its new EP, "Hold On."
