Crowdsourcing: Nominate a Supercollector

Monday, January 23, 2012

In February, Soundcheck will explore the world of “supercollectors,” people who hoard vinyl records, memorabilia, concert t-shirts and other music-related items.

We want you to nominate a friend or loved one who loves to collect music stuff – perhaps to the chagrin of others. (You can also nominate yourself.) We might feature your story when our supercollectors series airs the week of February 13. See what we've received so far. Or, fill out the nomination form below.

Please note: We reserve the right to air or post online any material you submit, except where noted that information will be kept private.

Elena Woontner from CA, USA.

I nominate Craig Betts. His Police collection is exhaustive, amazing, and really unique. He has been a goldmine for us fans who are so lucky to know him.

I nominate Ethan Crenson. He meticulously collects 78 rpms and has nearly 10000 in his archive (which is a beautiful site).

You can hear his collection of 78's spun live at Heathers, Veronicas and Der Komissar on select afternoons and evenings.

Francesco A.A. Mastracchio

I nominate book author HIRUKI MORAKAMI. I heard about him Saturday night on your short story program. He supposedly has the ultimate collection of jazz on vinyl in impeccable state. In fact, he constantly scours obscure record stores to purchase better quality albums of ones already in his collection...then he gives them away.

Amy and Mike have been collecting and trading records for 20 years. Some of their collection has been acquired while traveling abroad.
