The Loom (Sterling Taylor)

The Loom
"For The Hooves That Gallop, And The Heels That March"
Playing on Tuesday at Mercury Lounge
(217 E. Houston St., East Village)
Get: Tickets ($10) | Directions

The music of Brooklyn quintet The Loom weaves rich chamber folk through noisy rock.

The band has won over fans and critics with its pleasurable, multi-hued sonic tapestry fashioned from joint male and female vocals, a varied instrumental palette that includes the French horn, banjo, and mandolin and good ol’ fashioned band chemistry.

Since forming in 2006, Loom members Jon Alvarez, Dan DeSloover, John Fanning, Sarah Renfro and Lis Rubard released a debut EP, At Last Light, in 2008, and a full-length album, Teeth, last fall.

Download the whispery-raucous single “For The Hooves That Gallop, and the Heels That March” above. In the video below, The Loom performs the song “Like Lamp Glow.”

The Looms plays Mercury Lounge on Tuesday night.

Angathas from Queens

What a stereotype of today's indie music scene.
All the guys have beards.
The band has too many members.
The song they played had a nice lead break,
but it was the same chord sequence throughout.
Not one chord change.
Really tired of this Americana crap.
They're from Brooklyn? No one there can
play anything else?
How much more boring can these groups get?
