It's not easy tackling an American standard such as "The Nearness of You" and making it your own, but jazz vocalist Denise King offers up a memorable and smoldering version of this classic tune. Never mind the fact that King was never formally trained; her intuitive musical sense allows her to interpret the song with endearing sincerity. Some superfluous chimes and bird sounds accompany the backing piano, trumpet and bass, but King's voice is so nonchalantly captivating that it's easy to forgive this misstep.
