Get: Tickets ($14) | Directions

The blistering jazz fusion of Puerto Rican drummer and bandleader Henry Cole bears sonic resemblance to the traditional Latin American stew known as sancocho.

On his debut album Roots Before Branches, the New York-based musician and his Afrobeat Collective serve up bubbling, swirling Afropop melodies, Afro-Caribbean roots music (such as rumba, bomba and plena) and funk.

Download “Trabajala” from the new release above and watch a preview clip from Cole’s group called “Crazy With Joy” below.

Henry Cole and the Afrobeat Collective perform at Joe’s Pub on Tuesday night.
