Axl's Axe to Grind

Thursday, April 12, 2012

When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced in December that it would be inducting Guns N' Roses this year, many speculated whether the band's original lineup would reunite for the occasion. But yesterday, band co-founder Axl Rose announced (by way of an open letter to the L.A. Times) that he would not be attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this weekend, and "strongly requested" that he "not be inducted in absentia." In his letter he also stated, "there isn't room to consider a conversation let alone a reunion." We discuss the frontman's announcement - and we take your calls and comments.

I never liked GNR, not for a minute-- I saw them absolutely as poseurs from day one, which they were.
Never did they contribute anything to 'rock and roll' and its laughable that your esteemed program paid them ANY mind, perhaps more laughable that I didn't tune out.

During Axl's 5 minutes of fame, i was enjoying Metallica, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, and Einsturzende Neubauten, can you blame me for seeing a pile of sh&t when I saw one?

Maybe when Slash is hosting a telethon for the Rock and Roll Old Age Home (for rockers who can no longer record or tour) or some other charity a zillion years from now, someone will convince Axl to show up and they'll hug and cry it out.

Obviously, the original line of Guns & Roses would put The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on the map. Right now, nobody cares really. Gs & Rs fans (me included) would be downright ecstatic if Axl played w/ Slash, Izzy, Duff et al. played together once again, but Axl's firm in his refusal. Aside from issues w/ Slash, maybe Axl feels it would be disloyal to his current band?
