Minneapolis quartet Poliça -- the band's name is Polish for "policy" and is pronounced PO-lease-ah -- emerged last summer from an experimental collaboration between frontwoman Channy Leaneagh and producer Ryan Olson. The musicians first played together in the supergroup GAYNGS in 2010, and got to work after Leaneagh’s last band, Roma di Luna, broke up and her marriage to one of its bandmembers ended.

The chemistry between Olson and Leaneagh quickly transformed the experiment into a musical project that yielded Poliça's debut album, Give You The Ghost. Bassist and vocalist Chris Bierdan and drummers Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu were recruited by Olson -- who isn’t in the group himself -- to fill in the icy, R&B-inflected mix of Leaneagh’s auto-tuned vocals and fuzzy electronic melodies. Shortly after, the band began touring and hitting major music festivals like CMJ and South-by-Southwest. In February, Poliça released Ghost.

Download the group's single, “Lay Your Cards Out (feat. Mike Noyce),” from Give You The Ghost above. And in the video below, watch a live performance of the band performing, “Wandering Star."

Poliça plays Maxwell’s on Sunday night.
