Chicha Libre live on Soundcheck (Amy Pearl/WNYC)

Brooklyn grooves meet South American folk dances in the music of Chicha Libre. This group of armchair travelers is the house band at the Brooklyn club Barbes, now celebrating its 10th birthday with a new record called Canibalismo. The band invades Manhattan to play live in our studio.

Glad to see this awesome band keeping the sound of great peruvian bands like "Juaneco y su combo", "Los mirlos" and "Los Destellos" alive. Music i grew up with, in the deep jungle of Peru.

I love these guys! Congrats to them for their successful Kickstarter campaign! However, the thought that the musician's have that a label just "sends them a check and tells them where to show up" is pure fantasy. Keep doing it on your own! The label is not an end all, its simply another partner.

Howdy John, I'm with these guys. If the folks don't dance the band ain't doin' the right thing.
I came up playing dance music BTW and love to see GOOD dancing. Its as though social dancing is a lost art.
Fun dance series, I was up at the studio with Abe Inc. a while ago.
All the best.
