California roots rock veteran Chuck Prophet has been making music for over 25 years. He started out playing guitar and singing in the pop-rock outfit Green on Red before going solo in the early ‘90s.

The Whittier-native’s latest album, Temple Beautiful, pays homage to the city he’s called home for three decades: San Francisco. The 12-track effort employs jangly guitar-driven rock ‘n’ roll to recall a bygone era filled with colorful people, including urban heroes Willie Mays and Harvey Milk, and places like the now-defunct punk club Temple Beautiful where Prophet went to his first gigs.

Download the Cain and Abel-esque tale “The Left Hand And The Right Hand” from Prophet's 12th studio release. And in this video, watch his February performance of “Willie Mays Is Up At Bat” on KEXP public radio.

Chuck Prophet and his band The Mission Express play two shows at Joe’s Pub in support of Temple Beautiful on Tuesday night.
