We've put together a list of four summer festivals and the food they're serving up. Dig in!
1. Lollapalooza | Grant Park, Chicago, IL | August 3-5
Headliners: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Black Sabbath, Florence + The Machine
The Food Situation: Giant “Chow Town” area of the festival, featuring local vendors of all types.
Interesting factoid: The festival has its own “Culinary Director”, who oversees the food options for both attendees and artists. The director this year is the same as last year: Graham Elliot, chef-owner of two Chicago restaurants and judge on the FOX show MasterChef with Gordon Ramsey.
2. The Governors Ball | Randall’s Island, New York, NY | June 23-24
Headliners: Beck, Passion Pit, Fiona Apple, Modest Mouse
The Food Situation: A lot of well-known NYC eateries – and vegetarian options are promised. Luke's Lobster, Wafels and Dinges, Hill Country Barbecue are just a few vendors on the list.
Interesting factoid: No outside food allowed in the festival, but there will be free water available. Hydration is key, people!
3. Sasquatch! | George, Washington | May 25-28
Headliners: Jack White, Beck, Bon Iver, Tenacious D, The Shins
The Food Situation: Standard concession stands. No giant food court area like at other fests.
Interesting factoid: Attendees are only allowed to bring in a 1 gallon clear bag of snacks and one 20-oz factory sealed bottle of water. It is a four-day camping festival.
4. Newport Folk Festival | Newport, RI | July 28-29
Headliners: My Morning Jacket, Jackson Browne, Iron & Wine, Dawes, Deer Tick
The Food Situation: Still accepting food vendor applications for now, but last year featured local vendors like the Matunuck Oyster Bar, Newport Crepe Company and a vegan ice cream truck called Like No Udder.
Interesting Factoid: The festival has been serving "musical omnivores" since 1959.
Bonus: The Bon Appetit Grub Crawl | Brooklyn, NY (also in New Orleans, LA and Los Angeles, CA later in the summer) | June 1-3
The Food Situation: It’s more of a food and music festival than vice-versa. In total, it’s a three-day event. Music is involved only on Saturday (Wakey!Wakey! at the Knitting factory).
Interesting factoid: Ticket to the full three-day fest is $575. Ticket for the concert only is $55.
