The Chilean pop musician and producer Alex Anwandter has become a beacon of Spanish-language indie-pop over the past five years through his releases -- with the (now-defunct) pop-rock outfit Teleradio Donoso, under the musical moniker odiSEA, and on his latest solo LP, Rebelde (Rebellious) — as well as through collaborations with fellow Chilean pop acts Gepe, Adrianigual and Javiera Mena.
Anwandter’s work is infused with elements of disco, ‘80s and ‘90s house. Michael Jackson is also a clear muse for the Santiago artist's music and showmanship. Listen to the lead single “Cómo Puedes Vivir Contigo Mismo?" (“How Can You Live With Yourself?”) for a taste of Anwandter's sound, and also check out the music video for the song below. The short is an homage to Paris is Burning, the 1990 cult documentary on drag balls and ballroom culture.
Alex Anwandter plays 285 Kent on Saturday night.
