Musicians Catherine Harris-White and Stasia Irons—better known as the Seattle duo THEESatisfaction—create afro-futurist soul/avant-hip-hop that often features impressionist rhymes that swirl through loops of jazz and funk melodies.

Since forming in 2008, Harris-White and Irons have self-released a half-dozen mixtapes and had a cameo on fellow northwestern avant-hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces’ acclaimed 2011 album Black Up. The duo released its debut full-length awE naturalE this past spring. Songs on the 13-track effort feel nourished by Sun Ra’s cosmic jazz, Curtis Mayfield’s Super Fly funk, as well as third-wave theory and the science-fiction of author Octavia E. Butler.

THEESatisfaction performs with Shabazz Palaces at Ft. Greene Park on Tuesday night. For a show preview, download the group’s lead single “QueenS” and watch a performance on KEXP from March below.
