Ondatrópica is a musical project led by two Colombian music revivalists: Mario Galeano, frontman of the Bogotá cumbia quartet Frente Cumbiero, and Will Holland, a UK-born DJ, producer and musician who releases music under the moniker “Quantic.”
They assembled an all-star, cross-generational lineup from the genre’s 1960’s heyday through its current renaissance for a monthlong jam and recording session at Medellin's storied Disco Fuentes studio (Colombia’s Abbey Road Studios or Hitsville U.S.A).
This Colombian musical summit of sorts yielded a 10-piece traveling band--which performed at London’s Olympics celebration last week--and a self-titled double-disc LP. The dubby cumbia instrumental “Punkero Sonidero” from the release is available for download above.
Ondatrópica makes its U.S. debut at Lincoln Center Out of Doors on Friday night.
