German musicians Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer, and Paul Frick create what’s been called “organic techno,” a textured electro-acoustic hybrid performed in trio and in a ten-piece ensemble that’s lo-fi and minimal in nature, and at home in chamber halls and pop music festivals alike.

Last fall, the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble put out Mr. Machine, a cyborgian-titled album featuring acoustic reworkings of songs from the trio’s debut LP as well as covers of electronic dance music by Danish DJ James Braun and English singer-producer Emika. The group’s orchestral take on Emika’s deep house tune “Pretend” (music video below) is available for download.

Brandt Brauer Frick has two local shows this week. On Thursday night, the ensemble makes its U.S. debut at Lincoln Center Out of Doors and on Friday night, the trio plays Santos Party House.
