Gig Alerts: Bishop Allen

Friday, January 15, 2010

Every Friday, we're offering downloadable songs from artists playing in the New York City area that weekend. Here's one from an indie rock band that began as a friendship between two Ivy League students.

Bishop Allen
"Rain"
Playing FRIDAY at: 171 Lombardy St
(171 Lombardy St., Greenpoint) Market Hotel (1142 Myrtle Ave., Bushwick)
Get: Tickets | Directions

Formed by two Harvard friends and named after a street in Cambridge, Mass. where they both lived, Bishop Allen play summery indie rock that has been heard on TV (in an episode of "Scrubs") and film ("Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist"). "Rain" is an ebullient, poppy mix of jaunty beat, toy piano, playful guitar and choir-boy vocals. Bishop Allen will be opening for the resurrected '90s Scottish band Yummy Fur at the new and unnamed loft performance space at the corner of Lombardy Street and Varick Avenue, a show that was moved to Market Hotel in Bushwick because of space concerns at Lombardy.
