UPDATE: Voting for this round of Musician In Chief is now closed. You can vote on the next round later today.

In these final days of the presidential campaign, Soundcheck is unveiling an "October surprise" with our alternative quest for The Musician In Chief, an artist with enough vision, charisma and political savvy to lead the country for the next four years. We asked six Soundcheck contributors to offer up a hypothetical nominee, campaign slogan, platform, running mate and more.

Meet the Candidates:

-- Aimee Mann, selected by Soundcheck host John Schaefer

-- Dolly Parton, selected by CBS Sunday Morning contributor Faith Salie

-- Jay-Z, selected by Pitchfork's Ryan Schreiber

-- Keith Richards, selected by Billboard's Joe Levy

-- Patti Smith, selected by KCRW's Anne Litt

-- Sean "Diddy" Combs, selected by Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Now it's your turn to Rock The Vote to get us to the next round. In the next two weeks we will winnow that list down from six to a "Final Four," then a "Final Two."

This initial poll will be open from TUESDAY, OCT. 23 through 10 a.m. on FRIDAY, OCT. 26. and you can select up to FOUR nominees. On Friday, we'll announce the top four vote-getters and open up a new poll for you to vote again. So get busy and tell us which musicians should go to the next round.

What, no Bono? He understands plenty how the world works and is informed and connected enough to do something about it. Jay-Z for Vice-Musician in Chief.
