In the wake of Hurricane Sandy along the East Coast this week, few of us were in the mood for music. Now, as we begin the long process of repairing and rebuilding, many will seek out familiar songs and compositions. Join Soundcheck host John Schaefer again tonight, Friday from 9-11 p.m. ET for the second night of our special broadcast, "After The Storm: You Pick The Music."
Tonight's guests include songwriter and bassist extraordinaire Meshell Ndegeocello and New York City chef Eddie Huang of the restaurant Baohaus and author of a new memoir, Fresh Off The Boat.
And then we will hear from William Britelle of New Amsterdam records and non-profit organization. The label's headquarters sustained serious damage in the storm and we will get an update. (WQXR did a nice piece about the label's damage after the hurricane.)
Also, yesterday we asked you to tell us what music you want to hear in the wake of the disaster. We got a ton of amazing songs and stories, so today let's keep those song suggestions coming in. What song seems appropriate? Did music play a role in your storm experience? Give us an artist that really fits the mood. To put it simply: What music do you want other WNYC listeners to hear right now, and why? You might hear your song during our special broadcast Friday evening on WNYC 93.9 FM, NJPR and WNYC.org.
