Musicians have been singing and performing Stephen Sondheim's songs for decades, and probably other composers have been jealously thinking, “I wish I could write those songs.” Well now they can, thanks to pianist Anthony de Mare. De Mare's Liaisons project offers some of today’s finest jazz, classical, and musical theater composers a chance to reimagine a favorite Sondheim song.

Hear Anthony de Mare perform a few selections from the project in the Soundcheck studio.

Set List:

  • "Color and Light" (arranged by Nico Muhly)
  • "Send in the Clowns" (arranged by Ethan Iverson)
  • "Finishing the Hat" (arranged by Steve Reich)

Anthony de Mare plays at The Cell on May 12 at 3PM.

Tony has done such a great job with this project. I have such admiration for his taste, musicality, and for his mission to create bridges between different styles of music.
