A lot of indie folk is intimate and spare, with a single man or woman armed with nothing but a guitar and a lone voice. This is perfectly fine, but sometimes it can leave a little something to be desired. Colorado singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov strikes an ideal balance on this track from his 2009 album This Empty Northern Hemisphere. Quiet piano, soft percussion and low harmonica flesh out Isakov's sincere voice and hushed guitar. The accompaniment gently amplifies the beautiful melody and Isakov's wistful, romantic lyrics.
