Saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera wasted no time making his mark on the jazz world. A child prodigy in his native Cuba, D'Rivera grew up to be a musical force to be reckoned with, contributing more than his share of critically-acclaimed and award-winning recordings spanning the jazz spectrum from Latin to post-bop. He's been on a bit of a Grammy run since the mid 1990s, and this track comes from his 2009 Grammy-nominated album Jazz Clazz. On "Chiquita Blues," D'Rivera turns out cool, sprightly straight-ahead Latin jazz. This weekend, D'Rivera will preview some new pieces with his specially selected sextet.
