Portuguese jazz vocalist Sara Serpa spent her teens at a music conservatory in Lisbon, but when it was time to choose a professional path, Serpa sought out a degree in social work. Luckily, the change didn't stick. Before long, Serpa found herself drawn to jazz, and ended up heading to Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory to hone her lithe voice. On her most recent outing, Praia, Serpa fronts an ensemble of piano, guitar, bass and drums with her signature wordless vocal style, bringing an enchanting ease, grace and beauty to scatting. Tonight she performs with guitarist André Matos and bassist Thomas Morgan.
